Trooper D.N. Clark of the Virginia State Police says the front-seat passenger in a Thursday afternoon single-vehicle crash on Bellevue Road was airlifted to Duke University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Clark stated that Destiny Boyd, 21, of Chase City, was airlifted to Duke after being rescued from the wreckage of a 2006 Honda SUV driven by Autumn Keatts, also of Chase City, who is 20 years old. To treat their minor injuries, Keatts and a one-year-old passenger in the SUV were sent to Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, Clark said.
The accident happened around 12:15 on Bellevue Road, 0.8 miles from U.S. 360. The accident near Halifax caused the route to be closed for about an hour. According to Clark, Keatts was driving a Honda that went off the road, crossed back over to the other side, overcorrected, went off the road on the right side again, and hit a number of trees. Clark stated that the Honda was a total loss due to the accident and that the front passenger section sustained the most damage. He saw that everyone in the car was fastened into their seats. Keatts was arrested for allegedly losing control of his car.
