Barcelona made the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey after victory over Real Sociedad and their task was made easier after a 40th minute red card to Sociedad. Brais Mendez saw red after a VAR review on a bad tackle on Sergio Busquets.
Barcelona and Real Sociedad faced off at the Camp Nou in a Copa del Rey quarter-final.
The first half was even and both teams could have scored despite their not being that many opportunities. However, in the 40th minute, Real Sociedad's task got much harder.
A 50:50 ball saw Brais Mendez make a very poor tackle on Sergio Busquets. The incident occurred right under referee Jesus Gil Manzano's nose and he issued a yellow card.
The VAR got involved and asked the referee to take another look. The tackle was very dangerous and the referee upgraded the card from yellow to red.
Barca took full advantage and Ousmane Dembele scored the only goal of the game in the 52nd minute.
